Víctor Pedra and Barcelona.
We present a new exhibition of Víctor Pedra in our gallery in which the painter from Barcelona shows us his latest works, a careful selection of oil paintings on canvas and paper, as well as some sculptures in polychrome iron.
In this year in which Barcelona is hosting the Olympics, Pedra presents us with paintings in which he deals with the theme of sport, which he had worked on tangentially in his circus paintings, but which he now deals with directly. In these paintings he maintains his usual style influenced by the historical avant-garde, especially surrealism. It is his particular universe of women, animals and beaches, a particular vision of everyday life in the city that he now fuses with sport: gymnasts, swimmers, pole-vaulters... All while remaining faithful to his personal style.
The city, which was previously just a backdrop for the stories he presented, is less anecdotal on this occasion: we can see much more specific places than on other occasions, from the Monumental bullring to Montjuic Castle.
Sculpture continues to gain weight in Pedra's work, cyclists halfway between surrealism and cubism, athletes in a race with his usual humorous details show his growth in this facet.
