Solo exhibition of Jorge Gay in Barcelona
We present the first solo exhibition of Jorge Gay in Barcelona. After participating in some group exhibitions in our gallery, ‘Gardens for Nieves’ is the first exhibition that we dedicate entirely to his work.
Trained in Zaragoza, Barcelona, Madrid and Rome, Jorge Gay presents a mature painting that condenses many of the avant-garde movements of the early 20th century, from impressionism to metaphysical painting, in a personal synthesis that gives his work a profound personality.
The light, cheerful or dark, takes possession of compositions that the artist endows with a strong poetic charge, nothing is left to chance. Jorge Gay is a painter who thinks deeply about his painting, who elaborates and develops it with both discipline and emotion.
Gay wants us to immerse ourselves in his painting and even his suggestive titles are an invitation to do so: ‘The big garden smelled of acacia and I was wearing a new dress every day', Is he the only one interested in triggering a war? or ‘The sentimental criminal’ take us into his personal universe full of poetry, light and mystery, allowing, with their ambiguity, the spectator to find his own way to enjoy the work.
‘Gardens for Nieves’, the first solo exhibition of Jorge Gay in Barcelona, will remain open until June 18th.
