Juan Alcalde is a great example of the artists that, after the Spanish Civil War and the exile, developed their activity in Paris. Before that, Alcalde spenta few years in Caracas, as a commission painter, that brought him financial security, but in order to avoid turning himself in that kind of artist, he decides to move back to Europe.
Leaving everything behind, he settles in Paris where he will meet Peinado, Viñes, Bores or Marcel Marceau as well as musicians such as Ricardo Viñes.
Alcalde’s painting reminds us of Nordic expressionism and also the atmosphere surrounding De Chirico’s work.
