Joan Capella

Joan Capella was born in Montcada i Reixac, Barcelona, in 1927.

 

In 1940 he begins his studies as a painter at La Llotja School in Barcelona. His first contact with Paris arrives with his visit in 1945, which will be followed by other trips, mainly between 1965 and 1972. Those visits will lead painter Joan Capella to obtain the Isoudum award in France in 1979 and the silver medal at the III Salon de la Societé de Beaux Arts de Beziers.

 

At the beginning of the 80s he joins the  group of artists at Sala Dalmau in Barcelona and by the mid 90s he receives different recognitions to his trajectory: in 1997 hi is appointed favorite son of Montcada i Reixac, in 2003 he signs the contract with the Montcada i Reixac city council for the creation of the Joan Capella Foundation, in 2004 appears his biography, written by Jorge Gómez Ballesta and the DVD Alenar, a documentary on the making of his mural for the Montacada i Reixac old city council.

 

After his death, some books are published such as El dibuix i Joan Capella with texts by, among others, José Corredor-Matheos, Josep Mª Cadena, Conxita Oliver and Ramon Casalé or La modernitat propera / la modernidad cercanawith texts by Àlex Mitrani,  José Corredor-Matheos or  Josep Mª Cadena
